This piece of wood has a smattering of small letter clues. From left to right:
The washer and screws make an "B" in flag semaphore.
The screws are Braille, spelling out "U".
The tape and a screw are an "I" in nautical flags.
The bracket and bolt make an "L" in Pig Pen.
One of the three nails is bent, making a long dash compared to the two dots. This is again Morse Code, making a "D".
There are five drill holes, the second and fifth of which are filled. This is an "I" in Baconian.
While a top-down view, when viewed from the side, the three next nails make an "N".
The C-clamp is partially closed, making a "G".
The answer is therefore BUILDING
